Installed modem not detected by Modem Wizard due to Win95.
Cause:
Windows 95 was unable to detect the exact make and model of a modem. This does not indicate a problem. Most communications applications work correctly with the standard modem option. Some features, such as speaker volume, error control, and compression will not be utilized.
Solution:
Double-click the 'Modems' icon in 'Control Panel'. Select the 'Don't detect my modem; I will select if from a list' check box, and select the correct manufacturer and model for the modem.
To manually select a modem make and model:
1) Click the 'Start' button to display the 'Start' menu.
2) Select 'Settings' and select 'Control Panel'. (The 'Control Panel' window appears.)

3) Double-click the 'Modems' icon. (The 'Modems Properties' dialog box appears.)

NOTE: If no modem is currently installed on the computer, the 'Install New Modem' Wizard starts. Otherwise, you have the option of adding an additional modem.
4) Click 'Add...'. (The 'Install New Modem' Wizard starts.)
5) Select the 'Don't detect my modem; I will select it from a list' check box.
6) Click 'Next'.
7) If the modem came with manufacturer supplied drivers or you are using the Windows 95 diskettes:
a) Click 'Have Disk...'. (The 'Install From Disk' dialog box appears.)
b) In the 'Copy manufacturer's files from' drop-down list box, select the drive where the manufacturer's or Windows 95 diskettes are located and click 'OK'.
c) Follow the manufacturer's or on-screen instructions to install the modem drivers.
NOTE: If the COM port you want to use is not listed, you will need to add it using the 'Add New Hardware' Wizard.
8) To install the modem using the Windows 95 CD-ROM:
a) Select the manufacturer in the 'Manufacturers' list box.
b) Select the model in the 'Models' list box.

NOTE: If the make and model are not present, a similar model may be selected. Check the modem documentation for compatible modem types.
c) Click 'Next'.
d) Select the COM port that the modem will use and click 'Next'.
NOTE: If the COM port you want to use is not listed, you will need to add it using the 'Add New Hardware' Wizard.
e) If necessary, insert the Windows 95 CD-ROM and click 'OK'.
9) Click 'Finish'.
10) Click 'Close' to close the 'Modems Properties' dialog box.
